Comment on Virginia Tech inspired opinions in New York Times

The shooting, that happened on Virginia Tech campus on April 16, 2007, and ended the lives of 32 young people is, as I understood from the opinions given in New Your Times, one of several such incidents over the past few decades. After such an event the issue of gun control is inevitably raised, and the gun lobby and the NRA are blamed for the tragedy. However, suicides and rapes on university and college campuses, also mentioned in the opinions, cannot be so easily connected with legislations and prohibitions on gun control.
As some of the U.S. citizens suggest, the roots and causes of these problems lie deeper in the very system and society that avoid dealing with violence and mental health openly and thoroughly. In spite of the fact that the U.S.A. is so developed and powerful, it appears that its system fails to address these issues properly.
According to the opinions of some of its citizens counseling and reaching out for expert help with emotional problems is still stigmatized. On the other hand, university authorities may be too lenient with students’ improper behavior, apart from appearing technically unequipped to warn students of imminent danger, whether it be an armed attack or fire.Although each society, same as each individual, has its shortcomings, there should be no room for violent and destructive behavior that endangers the lives of innocent people.

Angel's Summary

WOODY’S COUNT DRACULA

Very interesting story. Typical for Woody Allen. He shows us the funny side of Count Dracula. At the beginning he describes Count Dracula like a man who lives in a satin lined chamber, sleeps in a coffin, wakes up only when the sun goes down, eager for blood, and all the things that we’ve known before. Until that part everything is usual.
But Woody Allen wouldn’t be Woody Allen if he didn’t make something unexpected, something that nobody things of, but on the other hand everybody will laugh till dying.
The way how he describes unusual Dracula situation is unique. The idea that Dracula is waking up at noon because of eclipse of the sun is brilliant.
Later he shows us how he is stuck in his ‘’dinner’’ house, so confused when he realized that dark is product of the Sun.
The idea that Dracula was hiding in stead of people who supposed to be his dinner is very interesting and funny at the same time.
At the end because of his gluttony for blood, he finished as a pile of ash front of human eyes.
Usually horror stories never end, but only in those which are written by Woody Allen.

The funny bloody Count

By Jack, the Count of Malverzanija

Count Dracula

This is a W.Allen’s short story about Count Dracula, representing him in the same way we know him at the beginning but in a little strange way for us at the end of the story. He is described as a real vampire, living in his castle at the top of one of Transilvania’s hills, sleeping in his coffin during the day, hiding from the daylight and waiting for his moments of pleasure after midnight… And all those usual activities until one special day for the Count(not so specialJ).
So, like any other common day lying in his coffin, the Count felt the smell of the darkness all around him. He succeed to arrange his plans promptly and was already on his way of realizing them. He was planning to pay a call to the Baker and his wife imagining them as easy and unsuspecting prey. As he was thinking of them prowling through the forest in less than a second he was already in front of their frontdoor.
Politely invited, he enyojed their company preparing for his succulent meal but suddenly the miracle happened. He realized that he made a mistake because there was total eclipse outside not a real night as he thought. There was no other choice for him exept to hide in the closet.
The baker and his wife were trying to make him get out of the closet but it was all in vain. He was stuck deeply behind the closet’s door hoping and expecting for a miracle to happen. Unexpectedly the Mayor and his wife came at dinner also, and they heard the silly story about the Count , the Mayor tried to open the door and the miracle really happened. The Cuont turned into a scelleton and a pile of ash and perished in front of everyone’s eyes…
However this was the funniest story about Count Dracula’s perishing I have ever heard J
Count Dracula

This is a short story about Dracula and how he appears when the darkness comes and he becomes a monster.
Somewher in Transylvania he was in the coffin during the day and after that he hide in the baker`s closet. He was with intention of protect himself. Moreover he can enter in any other homes and after that to vanish.
Then the baker and his wife were frightened by Dracula, so was the mayor who came to baker`s home.
He stayed in that enclosed room, but when the sun`s eclipse happened Dracula perished like a pile of ash. However many people fear of Dracula because he looks so strange and he sucks the blood succulently.
Lastly it was a interesting story of Count Dracula by Woody Allen and behavior of the baker named Jarslav and his wife, the story how Dracula turns in the ghost and disappeared.

Count Dracula (a story by Woody Allen)

Somewhere in Transylvania, count Dracula was sleeping in his coffin and waiting for the night to come. When the sun was gone, he got up from his coffin and prowled around the village searching for the victims and fresh blood. One day, there was an eclipse and he thought that it was time to go out after his victims, the baker and his wife. He paid a visit at their home. The hosts were surprised by his early visit. The host told him that the dinner would be served in seven hours. The count entered inside the house. During the conversation, the host said to him that today was an eclipse of the sun and it should get out in a moment. Immediately, the count ran into the closet. He stayed in the closet whole time. Meanwhile, the mayor and his wife came into the baker’s house. The baker said that count Dracula was in the house, but was hiding in the closet. The mayor wanted to see him. When they opened the closet, the count perished. They saw pile of white ash. Those were the remains from the count Dracula.

Gonzo's summary

Count Dracula

Woody Allen’s story is very interesting because we can see another approach from other writers. He wanted to emphasize some comic parts of Dracula’s life or Dracula’s endJ.
He also wrote the story so alive that you can get yourself into it.
Using some of those uncommon words as perish, prowl, succulent and other made the story mysterious, original and more readable. As a result of the eclipse Woody managed to put Dracula into the closet with intention of protecting him from the sun but he couldn’t protect him from the bakerJ.
The death of Count Dracula was caused by the beautiful sun’s stream which brings happiness to everyone but death to Dracula.

Count Dracula

This is a short funny story about perishing of Count Dracula, which was written by Woody Allan.
Dracula was lying in his coffin, and hungry, he was thinking where to go for dinner because the night was coming. He decided to pay a visit to baker’s family. Baker and his wife were surprised of his ‘daily” visit. They didn’t expect him because he never went out during the day. When they explained to him that his visit was good opportunity to watch sun’s eclipse together. When count Dracula heard that information, he started screaming that he had to go home to turn off the lights. Finally, he opened the closet door, found that there is a dark place and closed the door. He found a lot of excuses to explain why he did that. At the end of the story, a mayor and his wife also paid a visit to baker’s family. Baker explained the whole situation to them. They decided to open the door and to see what happened with count. But they were surprised when they opened the door. Because of sun rays, Dracula turned in pile of ash, perished and took his mystery with himself.

Answers on BLOG session at Kruzel DTS

1. Was the session about blogs relevant and useful?

Very informative and refreshing. I had given some thought to using blogs and becoming a blogger since blogs can be used in many ways in support of the language courses, and now that I have seen that ELT Instructors can connect and communicate through blogs I am even more interested in utilizing this means of communication and cooperation.

2. Are you interested in learning more about blogs?

I have established my own blog and will work on developing a blog culture among colleagues and students.

3. Will you implemented blogs in your ELT classroom?

Yes. Thanks for the session!

Impressions from the DTS held April 2007 at J.Kruzel

Everyone,

It was interesting, informative, and fun over the three days to be with colleagues from all over the country. Thanks to all who came and either presented or participated in the sessions by sharing their experiences, knowledge, and opinions. Cpt Zlatko Stojanovski's presentation got our hopes up for a joint ELT future and Natasa's quiz got our knowledge in all areas refreshed (not to admit: expanded ;) The pizzas were deliscious and the people friendly. Certificates were given for paying attention and working in groups. What more can you ask from a DTS?
